The Structure of a Street Gang: P1

At least half of the members of today’s gangs are adults. The adults prey upon and recruit juveniles because they are incredibly impressionable. Juveniles are less likely to receive harsh penalties if they are arrested and are eager to impress their superiors, the adult career criminals. Many juveniles feel family and ethnic ties are enough of an incentive to seek out gang life.

Juvenile gang members are often abused. They are expected to sell narcotics on behalf of adult members. While female members are not always bangers they are also abused by adult males and are often micro-managed by the top leaders of the gang.

Over the coming days we’ll take a look at the general structure of today’s street gangs. We’ll learn about top tier gang members, second tier gang members, and their roles in each organization. We’ll also discuss gang recruitment, gang activities, and how to make sure your children aren’t involved in gang life.

Stay tuned…!
