What “is”?

Busting the myths. I often instruct my students in this simple way to observe their world and environment; I ask them to spend time in developing the following perceptual filters. “See what it is. See what it is not.”

We live in a world of perceptions, prejudices, rumors, and impressions. Our views of life are constantly attacked by manipulations that prey upon our lives while trying to shape our emotions, opinions, and actions.

Let’s do an exercise together. We’ll call it a wake up call drill. Consider for a moment that the world that you see is not reality. Include in this picture your self, the chair that you are sitting in, and the room that you are in. See it for what it really is: a bunch of molecular structures vibrating and oscillating at different speeds and frequencies that are perceived by the things that we call the five senses as solid objects and colors with textures.

Hey, wait a minute! The five senses? Our window into what we call reality? Let’s assume that there is something that is the basic essence of you’ give it a handle. We’ll call it a soul. Imagine that it is sitting in a dark movie theater waiting for the show to begin. We will call the brain the projector. Let’s also give it the title of interpreter. The thing called light stimulates the rods and cones in our eyes and that is converted into an electrical signal we interpret as sight. A vibration of air goes to the ears and that is in turn converted into an electrical we interpret as sound. In fact, every sense that we possess is the brain interpreting electrical signals (electrical signals are molecular structures also).

This is all for the soul in the darkened theater to experience for itself in order to make choices and decisions. Could this alternative view of reality be the great secret to enlightenment? Reading the writings of many venerated sages of history with their detachment from the world’s conventional wisdom suggests a similar conclusion. Their writings reflect this view again and again. “See what is! Look at the truth!”

Collectively, we made up time, we made up distance, and we made up measurements. We made up money. We are truly living in a world of “MAKE BELIEVE!” The rules, the countries, the ideologies, and the attitude of everyone will show that! Who is “everybody”? Where do they live? Who or what is shaping everybody’s point of view? What really “is”? What really is not? Is there a beginning, middle, and an end? If it’s all a bunch of molecules and atoms masquerading as life as we know it, and everyone suddenly knew that as the truth, I think that we would live life a whole different way.

Maybe better!

Holographically yours,

I enjoyed reading this blog post and resonate with your observation. I came across your website because one of my co-workers Ray Fitch said he used to train with you and was telling me some stories of his martial arts days. Thank you for your insight.
